RECON completed the salvage and installation of variegated dudleya translocation for the Weston Development Project. Restoration involved dethatching, herbicide treatment, surveying, salvage, and planting, followed by a five-year maintenance and monitoring period. At the beginning of the project, a total of 72 variegated dudleya individuals were planted into two cages (plots) made with wire mesh and chicken wire to prevent herbivory. Non-native species were controlled within the plots and in the surrounding one-acre enhancement area, also benefiting the natural population of dudleya present within the enhancement area.
In Year 5, 182 mature dudleya plants were counted in the translocation plots, including 70 flowering variegated dudleya, exceeding the project requirement of a minimum survival of 80 percent of the translocated individuals. All project success criteria were exceeded.
