Restoration Planning
RECON’s in-depth know-how of the restoration processes required to make each project a success gives us an inherent understanding of how to plan for successful restoration. We provide plans that are implementable, designed to meet agencies’ requirements, and work within the local jurisdictional framework for mitigation and restoration planning.
Project Example: Sorrento Prestige Restoration Site
Focus: Habitat mitigation for development
Location: San Diego, CA
Habitat Type: Coastal sage scrub
Implementation: Irrigation system and container plants
Maintenance: Five-year maintenance and monitoring
This three-acre coastal sage scrub mitigation project is in the community of Carmel Valley, in the city of San Diego, California. Restoration involved dethatching, installation of an overhead irrigation system, a grow-and-kill cycle to reduce the invasive species in the seed bank, and native plant installation followed by a five-year maintenance and monitoring period. The previously disturbed land with little habitat value now supports a diverse coastal sage scrub ecosystem, including species like the endangered coastal California gnatcatcher.
