Reserve Management

Thoughtful management leads to enduring ecosystems. Our team of restoration ecologists conducts purposeful monitoring to guide our field crew in completing adaptive management actions that result in long-term conservation of native habitat reserves.

Project Example: Otay River Restoration

Focus: Riparian habitat restoration

Location: Chula Vista, CA

Habitat Type: Riparian and upland habitats including maritime succulent scrub

Implementation: Irrigation system, container plants, and plant salvage

Maintenance: Five-year maintenance and monitoring

This restoration project is located in the upstream portion of Otay River, located in the city of Chula Vista, California. Forty acres of restoration is occurring in a variety of habitats, including a combination of wetlands, floodplains, channels, riparian, and upland habitats. Restoration included successful salvaging and translocation of succulents, dudleya, bulbs, and associated maritime succulent scrub species. An aboveground temporary irrigation system was designed, installed, and maintained by RECON. Over 15,000 container plantings were implemented throughout all habitat types.
